Beppie Downie Weiss was born in Indiana. She received her baccalaureate degree from Purdue University and completed graduate school at the University of Wisconsin. For the next several years she lived in Amsterdam where she worked as a commercial artist and art teacher. In 1973 she returned to the United States and worked an an illustrator for the Illinois Department of Public Education. That year she met her future husband and immigrated to Vancouver Canada where she lived and worked for a number of years. In 1987 she moved with her family to Iowa where she continues to create her art.

Ms. Weiss has always been interested by figurative art and has developed a loose realistic style in both of her preferred media; oil and pastel. Besides portrait commissions, the varied activities of her daily life provide the creative spark and subject matter of her art. Her work is in private and public collections in Europe, Canada, and the United States.
